WORSHIP

WORSHIP IS SIMPLY GIVING GOD HIS "WORTH-SHIP"

SIMPLE INSIGHT: Worship is simply giving God His “worth-ship”.  It’s the right response from us toward who He is and all He has done for us.  We worship God through our actions, our thoughts, our motives, and our words. When we gather together and sing songs, we are worshipping God!  Check out Deuteronomy 6:5 and Psalm 100

SIMPLE PRACTICE: Take a song or two from Sunday’s service, and sing it out to the Lord in your car or quiet place as you go about your week.

“Lord, You are amazing and have done great things!  I want to worship You with my all and live a life of worship.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen.”

WORSHIP IS MEANT TO BE PERSONAL

SIMPLE INSIGHT: Worship is meant to be personal.  We worship God with our strength (Deuteronomy 6:5) and so my body is involved in my worship. The Bible shows examples of expressions in worship as singing, shouting, dancing, hands lifted up in surrender, eyes closed to shut out distraction and focus in on the Lord, etc.  As we worship God through singing, some kneel, some sit, some stand, others fall face down!  Some are quiet moments of silence, and others are so loud it shakes the earth!  There isn’t just one way to worship the Lord.  Check out Psalm 150 & Psalm 47:1

SIMPLE PRACTICE:  Make up your own worship song between you and God.  Don’t worry about it rhyming or being a hit song.  It’s just between you and God.

“Lord, I want my worship to be personal today.  That from my heart, and with my mind & strength, I worship You.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen."

WORSHIP IS MEANT TO BE FRUITFUL

SIMPLE INSIGHT: Worship is meant to be fruitful.  What we do personally is meant to carry over into how we live out our lives publicly.  The sign of a true worshipper of God is not how loud they sing, or how long they pray, or how expressive they are in a church service…it is God’s love flowing from their lives to others.  Worship is more than a song on Sunday, it’s a life that shines out Monday through Saturday.  Check out Colossians 3:17 & 24

SIMPLE PRACTICE:  This week tell God you love Him each day.  And let His love flow through you to those around you in a practical way.

“Lord, I love you.  Help me to worship you by loving others.  I want them to know how You’ve changed my life.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen"

WORSHIP IS MEANT TO BE INSPIRATIONAL

SIMPLE INSIGHT: Worship is meant to be inspirational.  Over the centuries worship has been expressed in many forms (arts, music, writing, dance, photo, etc).  God has made you to be creative in your worship to Him.  As a result there are new songs to sing, new ways to inspire worship, and new tools to use to accomplish that.  We can worship God through our voices alone, or use multi-media and technology to bring glory to God.  The tools are simply that…tools to help us draw close to our goal: Jesus!  Check out Psalm 19

SIMPLE PRACTICE: This week listen to an old hymn, an older contemporary song of worship, and a brand new worship song.  Note your preferences and likes, but realize that the goal is still the same: Jesus!

“Lord, inspire me in my worship!  I want to worship You in freshness and joy!  I want to grow in my understanding of worship and be gracious with the many different ways of worship.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen."
