Acts 1:1-11
"I need to be moving forward in step with God's Spirit and plan."
THE BACKGROUND, BREAKDOWN, & BEGINNINGS OF THE BOOK OF ACTS (1:1-3)

"As believers we are not living in the past, but "forward facing". Acts is a forward book."
3) the beginnings: (1-3)
Luke wrote 3 things of Jesus:
1) His preaching and ministry
Lesson #1 - Moving forward God's way is moving forward knowing who Jesus is.
2) His power
Lesson #2 - Moving forward God's way recognizes a powerful God is involved with my life.
3) His proofs:
Lesson #3 - Moving forward realizes I'm not following Jesus by a blind faith, but a proven faith.
"When we talk about moving forward in life, it starts with the reality of Jesus. We can't go forward as God intended without Jesus!"
THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (1:4-8)
4) He's told them What to do (Great commission), now He tells them How to do it (power of the Spirit). Mission is done by the power of the Spirit through willing vessels.
5) Jesus makes a distinction between the baptism of John to repentance through water, and the baptism of the Spirit from Jesus for the purpose of witnessing.
6) They knew the prophecies about the Messiah's reign and hoped it was time to overthrow Rome.
Lesson #4 - Moving forward God's way is not falling back on your own understanding and expectations, but leaning into His.
7) Their focus was not to be on political power, but spiritual power. it wasn't time to overthrow Rome, but reach the world!
8) 3 verbs used to describe the work of the Spirit: "With", "In", "Upon"

Lesson #5 - Moving forward as a believer is moving powerfully with God's Spirit to do God's ministry.
THE BREATHTAKING ASCENSION OF CHRIST (1:9-11)
9-10) "looked steadfastly" = staring earnestly
11) Jesus would literally come back again.
